VU-VERSE
One visualization stack. Desktop and Web. Seamless VTKHDF time-series exploration powered by QML + VTK and WebAssembly.
Overview
VU-VERSE is a unified visualization platform for exploring VTK HDF time-series datasets using Visualization Toolkit and its vtkHDF format.
The platform is built around cross-platform parity: the same UI layer, interaction model, and VTK rendering pipeline are shared across native and WebAssembly builds. This ensures consistent behavior, feature availability, and performance characteristics between desktop and web deployments, while preserving high-performance interactive visualization and time-series exploration.
Features
Unified UI
A single QML interface shared across all targets, ensuring identical layout, controls, and interaction behavior on both desktop and WebAssembly builds.
Data Format Support
Primary format: VTKHDF.
Scope: This release focuses exclusively on VTKHDF; legacy VTK formats are not supported directly.
Conversion workflow: ParaView can convert many commonly used VTK-based formats (e.g., legacy VTK, VTP, VTU variants) into VTKHDF using its Save/Export options or Python scripting interface. This enables integration of existing datasets into the VTKHDF pipeline.
Rendering Architecture
A shared C++/VTK rendering core across platforms:
- Desktop: Native OpenGL backend.
- Browser: WebAssembly builds compiled with Emscripten, enabling consistent rendering and interaction directly in modern browsers.
This architecture ensures a single visualization stack with platform-specific compilation, not platform-specific logic.
